Yaiza Riquelme had a date with music. She studied INEF in Murcia but she felt that she had to leave learn her own lessons and fulfill her dreams. Her first goal has been to record her first album which she has titled “Sin Olvidarme de Ti” but she is not about looking too far back but rather towards the future. A future that begins these first days of October when she stood in front of the public for the first time to sing these + songs included in her debut album.
Without looking back after finishing her university studies she moved to Madrid to continue talking to us about those everyday problems that we all have and that she tries to look at from a prism of optimism and romance. Only the future knows if this road CXB Directory will be a highway or a path through a lost forest. Yaiza has decided not to remain in doubt and puts a face to a new generation of musicians who are not afraid to use the singer-songwriter label even if they talk more about love than revolutions.
Newtribuna | Has it been leaving a safe harbor and embarking on recording your first album as a solo artist?
Yaiza Riquelme | It has been something that has happened almost without intending it an opportunity that has crossed our path. This album is the result of another project that did not go ahead but I decided to continue alone until the album was released.
When you start recording it you realize that it is much more complex than you think but although the step has been difficult being surrounded by people who encourage and support you has paved the way.
What has been the path taken?
I started composing when I was eleven years old. Since then there have been fourteen years of reflections emotions feelings and experiences that I have wanted to collect in this work. In my lyrics it is from first love to what I am experiencing right now.
Is Madrid the great door to dreams?
I am from Pilar de la Horadada Alicante but I studied at the University of Murcia and after finishing INEF I decided to move to Madrid because it is easier to find venues where I can play. When I was in Murcia I thought that sport would be my profession and music would be my hobby although in the end you have to choose a path and I think that path is music.
Since I was little I have always played practically all sports and I have always liked them now they are also part of my songs like in “Distancia”. where basketball is very present. It's also a play on words I've always liked sports and I think it was important.
